Download an EXCERPT FROM THE BOOKLET

Margaux is a children's dress with a medieval inspiration. Offered in two different sewing techniques, beginner level (version A) or advanced (version B), it allows you to explore many basic and more advanced techniques with its very detailed instructions and two step-by-step videos. It comes in sizes from 2 to 10 years and can be enhanced with a petticoat (also with a video tutorial) for added volume. You can download the pattern and instructions for the petticoat for free HERE.

Even though the project might seem ambitious, it is actually perfect for beginners, thanks to the provided guidance.

You can access all the videos HERE.

Detailed Description

The dress features a bodice with a contrasting central panel, balloon sleeves with puff (either simulated or sewn depending on the chosen version), a long gathered skirt with a pleated panel, and optionally, drapes that can be added to the sleeve cuffs.

The first technique (version A) is intended for beginners to intermediate level. In this version, the bodice is not lined, and the neckline is finished with a facing. The puffs on the balloon sleeves are simulated using fusible interfacing. You can choose to add or omit the drapes. The dress fastens at the back with hook-and-loop tape.

The second technique (version B) is aimed at intermediate to advanced level sewers. The bodice is fully lined and, if desired, decorated with piping. The puff sleeves are fully sewn, and you can also choose to add or omit the drapes. The dress fastens at the back with buttons. Several hand stitches are required to complete the garment. Overall, this version takes longer to make than version A and requires more patience and skill.

Choose which version you want to make. If you are a beginner/intermediate or simply short on time, opt for version A. However, if you enjoy detailed finishes, have time, or want a challenge, then have fun with version B.
